What are you willing to give up to be Happy Health and Wealthy?

My coach asked me a question this year that has been rattling through my head ever since.

"Are you willing to give up your life for your goals?"

My gut response, "NO WAY!" My life is why I set the goals in the first place. I don't want to give it up. Why would I do that?

I could feel him smiling in silence on the other end of the phone.

The reality slowly set in.

He said, "If you are not willing to give up your life, then your goals won't happen."

Ouch. How could that be?

Well, this is what I have come to understand about my willingness to give up my life as it relates to my ability to achieve my goals.

1. If I am not willing to give up my life for my goals, then I am not willing to make room for my goals. Life is full and demanding and there is no room for anything else. Something has to go to make room for something else to be created.

2. If I am not willing to give up my life for my goals, then my goals just are not big enough. The bigger the reason or the why behind the goal, the more I am willing to give up.

3. If I am not willing to give up my life for my goals, then my goals are probably not authentic. They are probably NOT aligned more deeply with who I am than my current life. It is not worth giving up my current life to get more of the same current life.

4. If I am not willing to give up my life for my goals, then I may not have the ability to "take a risk" without putting myself "at risk." This topic is all about foundation which I will leave for another post.

As we enter the second quarter of the year, how are your goals? Are you clear? Are you willing to give up your current life for them? It is time to reflect and revise your game plan for 2007.
