Man Against Job Search: The Story | The Process | The Tools

11:09 PM, Posted by Doug Miller, 3 Comments

In early 2009 I was working on a training project that was suddenly canceled. I was thrown into job search mode. I was searching using everything from working with a career coach, social networking, applying to jobs online, and face-to-face networking. It worked. Three months later I got a job.

On April 6th, I am going to share my story, my process, my systems, and techniques at the Job Search Special Division meeting. This blog post is my needs assessment. Please click on "Comment" below the post and tell me:

* What are you struggling with in your job search?
* What do you hope to hear in my story?
* What would you like to get out of my presentation?

In my attempt to turn convention upside down and get you thinking differently, here are some of the topics I plan on addressing. Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts:

* How to feel empowered when you have NO power
* Why what matters to you deeply matters
* What to rely on when you can't rely on yourself
* Why doing activities that lead to NO results are so important
* Completely take advantage of your network and suck them dry

You can find more about about the Job Search Special Division and read my brief bio over on event page by CLICKING HERE.

See you on April 6th.

Fortunately I am not in Job search mode but at any moment any one of us can so this is a great way to be pro-active. Design your job search strategy before you need one. Some questions that might seem valuable are
How do you keep your motivation high?
What should your resume communicate?
What are some of the best networking tools?
How do you maintain your self esteem while in between jobs?
What do you do with the down time between jobs?
How can I employ myself while searching for a job?

I hope this helps. Sounds like a great and timely presentation.

I am really looking forward to hearing your story. Interesting - my business is in transition now that I no longer work with SkillPath. I was entertaining the idea of doing a traditional job search. It forced me to open my mind to alternatives. Once my mind was open, I found that business began to pick up. Coincidence? I think not.

Hi Doug,

I'm intrigued by this topic:

* What to rely on when you can't rely on yourself

Hmm, what does Doug mean? I must know.
